Life is full of ups and downs , light and darkness, and we all go through them. It could be the loss of a loved one, loss of a job, a divorce, major life changes etc. Some of us may experience these things more intensely if we suffer from depression and anxiety. I wrote a song about walking that fine line between light and darkness. It’s one of my favorite songs in my catalog and it’s called ‘Light & Shadow’. Musically it’s a perfect example of major and relative minor keys. The song modulates (changes keys) back and forth between A Flat Major and it’s relative minor F minor. It’s this use of major and minor keys that helps give it that feeling of walking on the edge of light and dark. The important thing to remember is not to wallow in our grief but to acknowledge it as a normal part of living and to find solace and help where we can through faith, family, friends etc. To keep putting one foot in front of the other, to never give up and keep moving forward until we get into the light and a new day.

If only you knew how timely this post is for some. I discovered this song a few years ago and fell in love with it, and with playing it. I never related to the path of the melody like this and gives me an entirely new appreciation for it. Thanks for posting and sharing your perspectives behind your stunning creations.
It’s wonderful to be a part of your blog Philip. I love your music (have only just discovered it). I wonder if you realise how much beauty you have created and brought to the world? Good Karma for you. It will become apparent one day. I am 70 now and for 50 years have used daily meditation to handle my own ups and downs, but your music is also a big help. Best wishes, brother.
Thank you kindly for listening ??
