‘Leaving the Darkness Behind’- behind the music.

‘Leaving the Darkness Behind’ is the second track from my album ‘Hope Endures’. As I’ve stated before my album ‘Dark Night of the Soul’ is an emotionally heavy album of a journey through deep emotional pain and suffering and so ‘Hope Endures’ is the flip side of that. ‘Leaving the Darkness Behind’ is a music representation of leaving all that darkness behind and moving forward. You can hear this as the music moves up and down, back and forth struggling between anxiety and restlessness before ending in a hopeful and optimistic tone.

Musically it’s in the key of G minor (two flats) and changes meters frequently. I like the alternating patterns of ascending arpeggio patterns followed by tight diads in the right hand. Eventually the song modulates to F minor (4 flats) and continues these patterns until finally ending on the parallel major of F Major.
