‘Darkness Falls’ is in the key of D minor and begins with a rapidly descending D minor arpeggio triad in the right hand utilizing the notes A, F, D. Meter is 4/4 but as usual my music changes meters at times. I wanted to conjure up the feeling of darkness closing in rapid fashion.

‘Darkness Falls’ is one of 12 songs in my dark night album that is a music allegory for a journey into deep emotional darkness. I’ve suffered a few times in my life from terrible depression and anxiety. ‘Darkness Falls’ is one of the songs relating to that. The darkness is closing in and at that moment there’s nothing we can do to stop it except to hold on for dear life and ride out the storm.

For me, my music is a positive release and expression of beauty in good times and bad.
