“Rebecca passed away”, my friend said as we spent time catching up. I was shocked. I hadn’t seen Rebecca in a while and I always remembered her as a vibrant bubbly person who loved life. She was a joy to be around and I loved her smile and her laugh.
During the time of hearing this news I was in the middle of my writing sessions for my album ‘The Magic of Christmas’. As I thought about Rebecca and her life, I sat down and this song poured out of me. It also got me thinking about other people in my life that I lost and how Christmas would never be the same without them.
For as long as I can remember, going to my grandmother’s home for Christmas was tradition. After she passed that tradition was no more and I had to make new traditions for myself and family.
My song ‘Christmas Without Them’ speaks to this. It’s a reverent and introspective piece of longing reminding us of our loved one’s that have gone on before us and that while Christmas is a joyous holiday for many, it’s also a bitter sweet one for those of us that are missing our loved one’s and the traditions of years passed.
If this is your first Christmas without your loved one, many wishes of healing, peace, and comfort. May god bless you, and warmest holiday wishes.
