‘Finding Solace’ is the title track to my very first album released in late 2002/early 2003. Wow, hard to believe it’s been that long. As you can imagine, the music business was very different back then. There was no streaming that we know today. Pandora didn’t exist as it does today, Spotify didn’t exist, Apple Music didn’t exist, by that point iTunes barely existed and was new. Most people were still buying CDs.
So what is a brand new artist/musician supposed to do? Well, live performance. Play anywhere and everywhere that you can. I couldn’t exactly perform in a bar. Not that kind of audience. Wrong crowd. So in my early years I performed in retail spaces like shopping malls and book stores. Remember Borders Books and Music? Nearly every Friday and Saturday night for 3 years I performed the Borders circuit in the city I was living in at the time. Sometimes there would be an actual piano at the venue and other times it was me dragging my keyboard and speakers to the gig.
‘Finding Solace’ is about looking for or finding peace or comfort in a time of distress or sadness.
