Angels We Have Heard on High is a sacred Christmas carol/hymn from 1862. The melody is from a traditional French song. The song’s subject is the birth of Jesus as told in the Gospel of Luke, the scene where shepherds outside Bethlehem encounter a multitude of Angles singing and praising newborn Jesus.
My arrangement of the song starts off in A Flat Major, Allegretto, Poco Rubato with familiar parts of the melody accompanied by block chords, followed by soft arpeggio patterns. As the song progresses it changes keys several times. From A Flat Major, down a half step to G major, then to B flat major, and back to A Flat Major.
